Silvo Torkar (1 October 1954) is a researcher in the Etymological-Onomastic Section. His research work focusses on Slovenian and Slavic diachronic onomastics and local history of the Baška valley and the Tolminsko area. He is a member of the Commission for Slavic Onomastics of the International Committee of Slavists, member of the reviewer board of the journal Voprosy onomastiki (Yekaterinburg) and member of scientific boards of Slavia Occidentalis (Poznań), Translatorica&Translata T&T (Lodz) and Prace Językoznawcze (Olsztyn) journals.
