International dialectological scientific conference DiaClas
From the 22nd to 25th April 2025, the international dialectological scientific conference DiaClas - Dialect Classification: Past, Present and Future will take place in the Atrium of ZRC SAZU in Ljubljana, organized by the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language of the ZRC SAZU, the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, and the Frisian Academy (https://diaclas.zrc-sazu.si).
The conference will be dedicated to a critical examination of past and present dialect classifications of European languages and a discussion of the principles, methods and techniques for their further development, taking into account fundamental questions about the future of research in the field of dialectology and language variation in general.
The symposium is linked to the DIACLEU project (Dialect Classifications of Languages in Europe, diacl.eu), that aims to publish a complete overview of dialect classifications of the endogenous languages spoken in Europe.
The 5th Slovenian dialectology conference (SDP 5) is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first geolinguistic study of the Slovenian Language (Tesnière 1925) and actual dialectological researches
The program of both conferences is very rich, as more than 60 participants from 17 countries will present their papers during the four conference days. We are pleased to announce that our plenary speakers will be Alfred Lameli, Philipps-Universität Marburg, and Danguolė Mikulėnienė, Institute of the Lithuanian Language.
