Researcher in the Lexicological Section





Assistant Prof. Jerica Snoj has developed her research on monolingual lexicography during the final stages of the preparation of the Dictionary of Standard Slovene. She has participated in the planning, development and production of the Slovene Orthography (2001). As the co-author, she is currently participating in the preparation of the Dictionary of Slovene Synonyms.

She links her lexicographical work with the research in lexical semantics, particularly the topics such as lexical multiple meanings, metaphor in a lexical system, grammatical metaphor in conjunction with the lexical metaphor, lexical synonymy.

1979: graduated (BA Hons.) in musicology and Slovene language and literature from the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. 

1979: employed in the Lexicological Section of the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language, ZRC SAZU. From November 1979 to April 1980 she participated in the course on lexicography, intended for the new editors of the Dictionary of Standard Slovene. She participated in the final stages of the development of the Dictionary of Standard Slovene by obtaining and preparing materials, writing dictionary entries, editing, revising and finalizing the dictionary before printing.

She has participated in the preparation of the new Orthographic Dictionary by designing the foundational premises, editing dictionary articles and performing other tasks until the Slovene Orthography was published in 2001. 

She has been participating in the research group preparing the dictionary of Slovene synonyms.

In the field of lexical semantics, she completed her Masters thesis Tipologija slovarske večpomenskosti in 2003, and PhD thesis Metafora v slovarju in 2009. She published two monographs and other publications.

2011: awarded the title Assistant Professor (Docent) for Slovene language.
