Head of the preparation of the Lexical database for Slovene, carried out within the project Communication in Slovene (Sporazumevanje v slovenskem jeziku), financed by the European Union, the European Social Fund and the Ministry of Education and Sport of the Republic of Slovenia
The research interests of Assistant Prof. Apolonija Gantar are on the modern Slovene lexicon, especially new ways of presenting lexicographic description in electronic form, using the Internet. Her investigations focus on phraseology, especially on lexical phrases and the links between syntax and semantics. Recently, she has been working on automated access to data drawn from large textual corpuses for the development of linguistic manuals. Since 2010 she has been lecturing the course Linguistic technologies in the School of Humanities, University of Nova Gorica.
Between 2008 and 2011 she acted as the editor (for linguistics) for the journal Jezik in slovstvo. She has been a member of the organizing committee for the conference eLEX2011: electronic lexicography in the 21st century.

Born: 18 September 1968 in Kranj.
1995: graduated (BA Hons.) from the Department of Slovene Language and Literature, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, in the area of Slovene language and literature. In the same year, she started postgraduate studies in the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, and was awarded a scholarship by the Slovene Science Foundation for a period of one year.
Since 1997: employed in the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language, ZRC SAZU.
2001: completed Masters Studies in the field of linguistics at the University of Ljubljana with the thesis Teoretični vidiki zasnove frazeološkega slovarja slovenščine.
2005: completed PhD Studies at the University of Ljubljana with the thesis Frazem in njegovo besedilno okolje.
Between 2005 and 2008: employed (part time) in the Stanislav Škrabec School of Slovene Studies, initially acting as the Head of the study program for the Slovene Studies, and later on, as the coordinator of the study programs in the School of Humanities, University of Nova Gorica.
2007: awarded the title Assistant Professor (Docent) in the field of linguistics at the University of Nova Gorica.
