Celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language at ZRC SAZU
On Tuesday, October 14, at 11 a.m., we invite you to the ZRC Atrium at Novi trg 2, where we will mark the 80th anniversary of the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language at ZRC SAZU with a cultural event.
Following the ceremonial addresses by the head of the institute, the director of ZRC SAZU, and others, there will be a brief overview of the institute’s activities: from its founding in the final months of 1945 at the initiative of Dr. Fran Ramovš, through 1981 when the institute joined the then newly established ZRC SAZU, to the present, when the institute is dedicated to the systematic monitoring and research of the Slovenian language in all its forms and periods. A look into the future will not be missing either, with presentations of this year’s lexicographic novelties. Among them: the completed text of the new Slovenian Normative Guide (Pravopis 8.0) will be released for public discussion, and a new website will be presented, serving as the platform for the development of a new Slovenian grammar.
The institute’s work will be highlighted through short film excerpts composed of archival material from RTV Slovenia and more recent recordings. We will also hear testimonies from former heads and the current heads of departments. The event will be enriched by a musical performance by Blaž Mencinger and his band, accompanied by the choir of the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language at ZRC SAZU.
In true birthday spirit, the celebration will conclude with a cake decorated with 80 candles for the jubilee. With music, refreshments, and time for conversation, we will certainly raise our voices more than once in a heartfelt: “To many more years!”
Upon arrival at the event, you will receive a special (book) gift.
You are warmly invited!
The celebration is held as part of the events marking the International Dictionary Day 2025.
