Research: participation in the preparation of the Slovene Linguistic Atlas (external associate)





As a lecturer of Slovene in foreign universities, Assistant Prof. Vladimir Nartnik has incorporated into his research those levels of Slovene which served as foundations for his research publications on typology. On his return to Slovenia, he has focused his research (as a dialectologist) on the problems of accentuation, and later on, directed his work to the geolinguistic field. He has participated in the preparation of the Slovene Linguistic Atlas. Since 1998 he has been a member of the Editorial Board of the international journal Studia Slavica Mithologica.

Born: 8 April 1941 in Vnanje Gorice.

1965: graduated (BA Hons.) from the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, and the Department of Comparative Literature, Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, in the field of Slovene language and literature and Russian language and literature.

1970 –1986: lectured Slovene in several universities – in Zagreb (3 years), Moscow (2 years), Prague (6 years) and Budapest (5 years). In this period he regularly participated in the Seminar of Slovene Language, Literature and Culture, in the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.

Since 1986: employed in the Dialectological Section of the Fran Ramovš Institute of the Slovenian Language, ZRC SAZU; as accentuation expert, he has been participating in the Lexicological Section, in preparation of the Dictionary of the Slovene Literary Language.

1993: became a member of the editorial board of the European Linguistic Atlas.

1994: awarded PhD from the University of Silesia in Katowice, with the thesis Alternativno iskanje slovniških modelov v slovenskem knjižnem jeziku.

He contributed to the tonal aspects in the Slovenian orthography (2001).

1996–2010: lectured the course “Introduction to the Slavic linguistics” in the Faculty of Arts, University of Maribor.
