The Orthographic Section grew out of a group of researchers preparing a new normative guide and was established by a decision of the Fran Ramovš Institute’s Scientific Council in May 2018. Researchers at the Orthographic Section deal with normative problems of the contemporary Slovenian standard language, with monitoring the synchronic dynamics of the language system and with its description. The Orthographic Section is working on a new normative guide, i.e. updated orthographic rules and a dictionary, and collaborates with members of the Commission on Orthography at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts and the Scientific Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts especially in drafting orthographic rules. The Orthographic Section also runs the Language Counselling site, which offers linguistic tips in collaboration with all the researchers of the Fran Ramovš Institute.
